As such, he charges the following consultation fees for extensive, in depth consultations (up to 3 hours): Complex Business Litigation Including Lanham Act and Trademark Infringement - $500; General Business Disputes or Divorce or Family Law Matters - $300; General Trial Matters - $300; Bankruptcy Consultations - $200. The fee is due at the time of the consultation. There is no better investment. (Free consultations are often a "light weight" waste of the attorney's and client's time or, worse, a platform for the attorney to promote an engagement.)
When you engage Mr. Hippe for a consultation you can expect that:
- During the consultation he will review and explain any documents that you bring in that are relevant to the case that you wish him to consider. Often times, he will take over a case from another attorney, so bringing in an entire case file is not uncommon.
- He will, before making a recommendation, consider your legal matter in depth and analyze your options to advise the best course of action. This may be to file suit immediately or defend aggressively and push for trial, or this may be to defer and reserve resources or offer a settlement. All counsel given during the consultation is protected by the attorney – client privilege.
- Although Mr. Hippe cannot guarantee a result, he will provide, based on the facts as he understands them before he is personally involved, a forecast of a greater than 50/50, a 50/50, or less than 50/50 chance of success.
- Offer an educated estimate of the total cost and seek a financial arrangement that makes sense given the client's resources, including a possible expense cap, flat fee, or set periodic payment arrangement. (Mr. Hippe is generally not willing to deviate from his minimum requested trial practice rate of $195/hour but a "scope of work" can be defined.)
- Set reasonable and proper client expectations, including an expected budget.
